Abstract: One of Peter Swinnerton-Dyer's many contributions to the study of rational points in families has been to draw attention to the effect that the presence of multiple fibres can have on the set of rational points in a surface that is fibered over the projective line. I shall discuss a quantitative variant of this, in the context of local solubility, together with a link to the density of Campana points on orbifolds. This is joint work with Julian Lyczak and Arne Smeets.
