About this item
Description: |
In August, Shinzo Abe resigned as the Prime Minister of Japan at a time of extreme geopolitical uncertainty in Asia and globally. The panel of esteemed Japan experts offer reflections on Abe's foreign policy legacy in cultivating peer relationships with other great power leaders, expanding on Japan's contribution to regional stability and security, leading regional initiatives such as Indo-Pacific cooperation, the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and transregional ones such as the Japan-EU Economic Partnership Agreement and negotiating Japanese economic interests from the fallout of the decoupling of the continental economies of China and USA. As Japan reconstructs the network relations and institutions in Asia and beyond along a broad conception of the "rules-based international order", will it increasingly run up against the limits of domestic politics and the inflexible demands of US and PRC?
