Abstract: | - Dialogic intention -
For students to discuss what they already know about characters from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and to add this knowledge to Talkwall. - Subject and topic - English (Shakespeare) - Video Description - In this lesson, the teacher used seven Talkwall screens to explore and analyse the main characters from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. In this video, taken from the start of the lesson before the use of Talkwall, the teacher is assigning different talk roles to students, and discussing the use of ‘sentence starters’ to help the development of particular talk skills. The dialogic intention of this task was for the students to discuss (in small groups of three) what they already knew about each character and to add this knowledge to Talkwall. Following this video, the contributions for each of the seven characters were discussed in a whole class session. - How does Talkwall support this? - The use of a Talkwall allowed the teacher to consider students' contributions for each character systematically in turn. The teacher also used Talkwall as a source of information later in the session, as students were encouraged to refer to the points posted on Talkwall where they were writing ‘PEE’ paragraphs about a designated character. This also allowed the teacher to see how learning had developed through the session. |
