Abstract: | Women offenders have always been considered a distinct problem for policymakers and the correctional community: too small to warrant too much attention or too many resources, yet distinct enough to generate a different causal and restorative approach. The current gender responsive approach has gained considerable purchase in the correctional community but in this lecture, I question whether it actually reflects what we know about women’s pathways to prison and whether it can address the contexts that lead to offending and eventually imprisonment. |
