| Abstract: | A central theme of Philip Allott’s recent book Eutopia is that the human mind uses a dialectical process of contradictions, dilemmas, and paradoxes to form reality at every level, social and personal. He will discuss how the law acts as a permanent mechanism for resolving such things in the everyday creating of a given society.
Philip Allott is Professor Emeritus of International Public Law at Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College. He has published two major works in the field of international social philosophy, Eunomia: New Order for a New World (1990/2001) and Eutopia: New Philosophy and New Law for a Troubled World (2016), marking the 500th anniversary of Thomas More's Utopia. Mark Engelman is Head of Intellectual Property at Hardwicke Chambers, Lincoln’s Inn, Master of the Bench of The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, Senior Law Mentor at King’s College London, and a Research Associate at the VHI. |
