Abstract: | Look at the boy in the middle, who represents a Silver plus performance. He facilitates the group talk at the start of the clip and presents clear reasons for his views. He listens carefully to others in the group, using non-verbal communication at first to express disagreement. He responds to their arguments by changing his mind, providing an extended rationale for why he has done this, which is not entirely reliant on others’ arguments (i.e. he refers to the comparisons already made between jobs, but introduces the idea of hours worked as additional evidence). However, he does not ask his partners any questions to explore their views.
You may wish to contrast his performance with the other two participants, who provide more considered reasons to support their views. The boy on the left is willing to disagree and provide a perspective that is wider than the apparently narrow terms of the statement that is being discussed. The girl on the right also offers reasons for her views and is also prepared to ask a direct, challenging question to reinforce her perspective. |
