The session is introduced by Dr Jo Mills, CfEL Deputy Director and chaired by Stuart Evans, a seasoned chairman, non-executive director and entrepreneur in cleantech and ICT and CfEL Entrepreneur in Residence.

The session will be of particular interest to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to gain insights into the personal traits and skills needed to pursue and drive a business venture. It also provides practical information on developing business modeal to achieve the vision and the influence of customers, sales and company directors in shaping these business models.

Chair – Stuart Evans

Stuart Evans is a seasoned chairman, non-executive director and entrepreneur in cleantech and ICT, with more than 25 years' CEO and board experience in start-ups and quoted firms, and more recently in the public sector and healthcare charities. He takes a special interest in entrepreneurship, innovation and enterprise from a global perspective.

He currently serves as Chair of Trustees at the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity in Cambridge. He was previously Chairman and Co-Founder of Novacem, a cleantech spin-out from Imperial College, London; and CEO and Co-Founder of Plastic Logic, a spin-out from Cambridge University that has now raised over $500m to develop flexible displays for e-books and other applications. His first start-up was Cambridge-based Cotag International. One of the pioneers in RFID, the Cotag brand and product line is now part of Siemens.

Stuart is well known for lively contributions and presentations at conferences and industry events around the world. The early part of his career was spent at IBM and McKinsey & Co. He gained an MBA from the Harvard Business School after reading mathematics at Jesus College, Cambridge. Stuart is a Chartered Director and Member of the Institute of Directors. He has twice been named a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum, and attended the annual meetings in Davos.

Dr Mike Lynch, OBE, FREng is the founder of Autonomy. Dr Lynch has long been regarded as a visionary figure within the technology world, described by the Financial Times as "the doyen of European software" and by the Sunday Times as "Britain's Bill Gates". He advises the Prime Minister on matters of science policy through the Council on Science and Technology. Dr Lynch founded Autonomy in 1996, the UK's largest and fastest-growing software company, with a market capitalisation of $11bn, and was its CEO for fifteen years. In addition to Autonomy, Dr Lynch has founded or advised a number of companies ranging from Neurodynamics to Blinkx. He has invested in a number of start-ups, most recently Featurespace, and has also advised venture capital and private equity groups such as Apax Partners and the Carlyle Group. Alongside his entrepreneurial career, Dr Lynch has a number of board seats and advisory roles. He is a non-executive director of the BBC, the British Library, and Cambridge Enterprise. He is a council member of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the Foundation for Science and Technology, of which he is also a trustee. He is a member of the advisory board of Tech City's Investment Committee. He is an advisor to the Prince's Trust technology group and a founding investor of Bridges Venturing, which is a sustainable growth investment firm. During his career, Dr Lynch has received many awards and accolades. In September 2012 he was inducted into the Digital Hall of Fame, alongside Tim Berners-Lee, Warren East and Stephen Fry. In 2011 he received the Outstanding Contribution award in the UKIT Industry awards and was named Most Influential Person in UK IT by Computer Weekly.
