Description: Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, Vice Chancellor, University of Cambridge gave the keynote speech at the Entrepreneurship Educators Colloquium in July 2011. In this excerpt from his speech, he talks about the importance of Entrepreneurship, the role of Universities in Entrepreneurship with a focus on innovation; and the example of the University of Cambridge which has fostered enterprise and innovation since the 1960’s influencing and enabling the creation of over 1400 businesses. Many of the businesses have connections to the University of Cambridge, with innovations deriving from research conducted in University laboratories. The "Cambridge Phenomenon" is a term used to describe the rapid and successful growth of science-based industry in and around the city, which has established a reputation as one of the most successful technology business clusters in the world and earned it the nickname "Silicon Fen".

One of the key advantages for students at Cambridge is the opportunity to access and exploit the resources available to develop personal and business networks, innovations and ventures. Cambridge Judge Business School, through the courses run by its Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, is at the heart of University's drive to foster innovation and enterprise.
