About this item
Image inherited from collection
Description: Partly England could be the first industrial nation because it had a very sophisticated capitalist economy stretching back hundreds of years. It was full of money, markets, relatively free but skilled labour, banks, limited liability, the stock exchange, mortgages and may other devices to help move capital and labour around. It was like this for many centuries before the industrial revolution.
