| Abstract: | Starting with the early missions into outer space and continuing with the ‘space tourism’ now planned by Elon Musk and others, the humanisation of outer space is well underway. Using and adapting the theoretical perspectives advanced by Henri Lefebvre, this paper discusses the role of art and architecture in planning and promoting visions of a ‘manned’ outer space. Architects, once peripheral to outer space missions are now more central; designing habitats for the Moon and Mars while still offering visions of a humanised cosmos. |
