| Abstract: | 'Broken Song' received its world premiere at Madingley Hall on 1 May 2011, where it was performed by the Ball Quintet alongside works by Samuel Barber and Jean Francaix. The work is inspired by several Japanese sources: Sakura folk music, Taiko drumming and the Haiku. It also draws on two chords from the works of Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu. |
