Tackling Inequalities from the Pandemic's image
Description: The Covid-19 pandemic may not strengthen the strong, but it has certainly pushed the weak to the edge of the precipice. Even as the pandemic rages on, global and local politics have drawn battle lines along socioeconomic, institutional, technological, realpolitik, ideological and identity divides. To better understand constructive responses to rising inequalities, Gonville & Caius College and the Centre for Geopolitics have assembled a panel of experts from the disciplines of history, international relations, law, and engineering to consider the possibilities of achieving resilient adaptation and equitable outcomes by public and private actors. How do we evaluate our protective measures based on how societies have coped with pandemics in the past? How should policymakers and international organisations balance the demands of addressing inequalities and seeking solidarity? How can advanced industrial countries and multinational corporations offer aid for the fragile state of human security in less developed countries? What role can the scientific community play in reducing uncertainties and building consensus in public policy? And might the pandemic reverse the Eastward shifting of global economic and geopolitical centre for gravity over the last several decades?
