Abstract: | This talk addresses two problems, studied through numerical models, for capturing the flow structure beneath surface water waves. First we consider (nonlinear, traveling) periodic rotational waves, the appearance of stagnation points and the possibility of pressure anomalies. Secondly, we consider linear waves in the presence of quite general topographies and the numerical construction of a three-dimensional Dirichlet-to-Neumann operator. Simulations, restricted to a two-dimensional free surface, illustrate that the vertical structure of the 3D flow is captured accordingly even in the presence of large depth variations. |
