Abstract: This presentation is a Gold performance. The presentation is clear, confident and audible throughout. There is good variation of tone and appropriate pronunciation, using controlled gesture to support the points being made. There is some bodily movement that is perhaps a little distracting, but this seems to represent the speaker’s attempts to engage the audience. There is an appropriate use of vocabulary throughout, and the talk overall is characterised by well-formulated, long structures; there is flexibility in the use of language and there is a good flow of talk from subject to subject as points are expanded and, occasionally, interwoven. The content is well chosen, purposefully delivered and informative. Clear examples are provided in a ‘myth and reality’ structure, taking into account what the audience might be thinking and addressing these issues. The delivery is personal and the audience is addressed directly. The presentation is lively, with a use of humour, mimicry and rhetorical questions. It begins well, though the ending is a little inconclusive. The speaker seems quite able to handle this kind of talk situation, and demonstrates many of the relevant skills in the Skills Framework.
