Introduction by Xuan Ke: 90% Han classical music brought here in 1382-3 with 350,000 Han people, mainly soldiers

Says youth not interested, only in Chinese pop music so Naxi music in danger of dying out.

1. First piece dates from c700 - Taoist - to be played in monastery. Composed 741 by Emperor.
2. Tang popular song - poem - threshing sound - lyric written by Tang dynasty. Emperor in prison at 41, died in prison at 42. 1025 year old song.

3. Third piece - C13 song without words. Orchestral piece ‘Hate’
4. Xuan Ke fulminates about over-acting by singers
5. Fifth piece song, Yuan dynasty, written by scholar-poet, folk singer "swine herders".
6. Sixth Piece - Song of the water dragon - 800 year old - modern tune "Journey to Lijiang" - flute solo.
7. Seventh piece – ancient poetry-chant with melody; old man born into famous old Naxi family - "Lovely flowers live in water" - this form dying out.
8. Eighth piece – hymn dedicated to Lao Zi, philosopher of early China - "Old man".
