Abstract: | The Bible is not a science textbook or biology study guide but its authors were real people who often took a keen interest in God’s world. This talk will first of all look at some of the ways in which the writers of the Old Testament explored and classified the physical world, including their understanding of what we would now call taxonomy and ecology. Then it will consider some of the theological implications that arise from the way the natural world is depicted in the Bible, before finally considering what it has to say about our own place as biological organisms in a complex world. |
