Abstract: | Modern molecular biology, microscopy and imaging techniques allow the acquisition of large amounts of high resolution images of migrating cells. In this talk, I will present some initial steps towards using such imaging data in the development of mathematical models of cell migration. Time permitting, we will focus on two examples, a model for monopolar and bipolar growth of the fission yeast S. Pombe and a phase field approach to whole cell tracking. The first involves the use of qualitative features observed in the data to refine the modelling while the second illustrates some first steps towards model quantification using imaging data.
