Description: | Traditional rules and prohibitions are of paramount importance for not only sustaining family structure but Kalmyk society at large, hence the roles and identities of its members. Social and kinship practices, hierarchies as well as daily activities of individuals are regulated through both rules that encourage certain actions and prohibitions that Kalmyks learn from early childhood. Many rules and prohibitions are based on local beliefs, worldviews, values, signs and omens.
